A barium swallow involves drinking some contrast and then a series of X-rays are taken to assess conditions that effect your oesophagus or stomach. The indications for a barium swallow include dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), a hiatus hernia and reflux. It is a non-invasive test that takes about 30 minutes.
